Wanted: $55 Million Mega Millions Winner

The Mega Millions jackpot of around $55 million was won by a single player on Tuesday 17 October according to lottery officials, but the fortunate player is yet to formally claim the prize. The winning ticket was purchase in North bend, Washington. The winning numbers we 6, 18, 20, 28, 38 and the Mega Ball was 37.

Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery played in California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington. Because of the hefty jackpots generated by this lottery (the biggest to date was $363 million in May 2000) it isn’t unusual for winning players to delay making their claim whilst they wait for the reality of their success to sink in. Some winners also take legal advice on whether they should opt for a lump sum payment or take annuity payments instead.

Of course, it could be that the winner doesn’t yet know about their good fortune. Right now, the $55 million jackpot winner could be going about their normal day to day business with the precious ticket lurking quietly in a wallet, purse or in the dash of their car.
