Two Monster Jackpots Up For Grabs

This week there are at least two monster lottery jackpots up for grabs thanks to rollovers in both the Powerball game in the USA and Euromillions in Europe.

The Powerball jackpot, which will be drawn on Wednesday 25 October, is estimated to be around $70 million. The game is played in 29 states as well as in the US Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia. To participate, players must select 5 white main balls from 1-55 and 1 red Powerball from 1-42. The jackpot is won by the player(s) who correctly matches all six numbers.

The Euromillions jackpot is estimated to be worth around £75 million (approximately $119 million) and is drawn on Friday 27 October. The jackpot has reached this size thanks to no less than eight rollovers. The game is played in Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. To participate, players must select 5 numbers from 1-50 and 2 Lucky Stars numbers from 1-9. The jackpot is won by the player(s) matching all seven numbers.

Although both of these jackpots are big enough to be referred to as “monsters” they are not actually the biggest on record. The biggest Powerball jackpot was a staggering $365 million in February 2006, whilst the largest Euromillions jackpot was £126 million (around $199 million), also in February 2006.

Will both jackpots be won this week, or will we have even larger estimated jackpots to report as we move into November? We’ll have to wait and see to find out, but in the meantime it looks like a good time for players of these particular lotteries to invest in a ticket or two...
