The Mobile Millionaire

A couple from Honiton in Devon are celebrating after winning a half-share of the Lotto jackpot for Saturday 07 July worth £1,655,605. Mandy Williams, who works as a mobile hairdresser, bought her winning ticket from a Tesco score whilst visiting St Austell in Cornwall. The numbers were selecting with the Lucky Dip feature, and in Mandy’s case it couldn’t have been much luckier!

Mandy is married to Alan and they have two children aged 21 and 18. Whilst many jackpot winners immediately start thinking about retiring from their jobs to focus fully on enjoying a life of leisure, Mandy loves her work as a mobile hairdresser so much that she has already decided that she will keep doing it.

Of course, before she arrived at this decision she first needed to get over the shock at having won in the first place. It was Alan who discovered the win when he took the ticket to be checked at a supermarket near their home.

“I could not believe it when Alan told me,” Mandy said as she recalled the moment that her husband broke the news about the win. “I really thought it was a dream. We are still in shock! We plan to have a few nice holidays and look after the children, but I still want to carry on working because I love what I do.”

The first destination on the holiday list is New York. After that Mandy wants to make a dream come true by going to China to see the Terracotta Army – an army of 8,099 life-size warriors and horses fashioned from terracotta over two thousand years ago, which was discovered by farmers in 1974. As well as trotting the globe, the Williams will be helping their children to get onto the property ladder and buying them each a new car.
