Syndicate Scoops Jackpot

A syndicate of four road maintenance company employees won the UK National Lottery jackpot of over £4.2 million on Wednesday 14 March. The four men, who are all from King's Lynn in Norfolk, had previously been coming to terms with being made redundant, making the multi-million pound win even more significant.

"We were obviously very sad about losing our jobs through redundancy, especially as the company is well respected by the guys and we enjoy working together," said David Brock, who leads the syndicate. "But suddenly our future has completely changed with the win and we are all on a high."

The syndicate won £4,206,341 thanks to a Lucky Dip ticket purchased from a branch of Martin's newsagents. Syndicate member Trevor Kimber was the one who thought he recognised their numbers as he read his newspaper, as he explains: "I was reading the Daily Mirror at work and I thought the numbers looked familiar. The truth is that I've got it wrong many times before so I didn't believe it."

For this reason, Trevor got the syndicate leader to confirm the win. "I got the ticket out of the van and said to David, 'you'd better check this and get a copy of the winning numbers'. David went into the local supermarket and when he came out said, 'Well it's right, we've got every one'. It was a fantastic moment and we're very, very happy of course."

The King's Lynn syndicate members are now thinking about what do with their seven-figure fortunes. David has said that he intends to buy a house, a new car and go to New Zealand and Australia to visit relatives. "This win changes everything," he said. "It's the opportunity of a lifetime and I really am going to enjoy it."

Trevor also wants a new car - a Volkswagen to be precise - but is taking his time over any other plans. The two remaining members of the syndicate are keeping their plans to themselves for the time being. All we can say with confidence is that they probably aren't worrying about redundancy any more!
