Monday Bought By NetPlay

Chariot, the company that was founded in 2003 to bring their vision of monday – a popular charities lottery – to life, have announced its sale to NetPlay TV. The monday game was originally launched because the team behind the company wanted to create a lottery “which would benefit five different UK charities each week – some 70 in all.” It was envisioned that this would help the charities in, “Raising much needed funds for their work without the need for time consuming application processes or red tape.”

monday was also a good thing for lottery players. The game was designed so that monday players would have, “much better odds of winning a jackpot, a jackpot winner every week, better smaller prizes and more of a player’s pound going to charity than on the National Lottery.”

The monday game costs £1 for each charity lottery entry. Players choose 6 numbers from 49 (exactly the same as they would when playing the National Lottery) and the winning numbers are “drawn” at random by computer. The jackpot is won by players who correctly match all six numbers, though smaller prizes are awarded to those matching 3, 4 or 5 numbers. There is no rollover in the monday game. Instead, if no player has all 6 numbers, the jackpot fund is distributed to the players matching the most numbers.

In a brief statement to existing players, a spokesperson for Chariot said that: “The lottery continues just as before. This has no impact on this week’s or future draws. If you have set up a subscription play this will carry on as before. Any future play is also valid. In fact you won’t see anything different at all.”

So why sell monday at all? The official explanation is that, “Chariot was unable to continue funding the development and marketing of the game. Chariot sold the game to ensure the future of monday in the interest of players and the charities they support.”

NetPlay TV, the company that bought Monday from Chariot, is listed on the Alternative Investments Market (said to be the most successful growth market in the world) and focuses on interactive TV gaming.
