Fish Factory Fortunes

A syndicate of workers at a fish processing factory in Hull has landed a £1,128,663 share of the Lotto jackpot for Saturday 24 March. However, it wasn’t until the following week that syndicate leader Chris Baker discovered the win, because he was on holiday in South Africa at the time! When Chris returned to work, he was all set for another regular day at the fish factory, but he soon found out that regular days would soon be a thing of the past...

"I came back into the office for a half day after returning from South Africa," Chris explained. "The lottery ticket was in my drawer so I checked it online and it seemed that we'd won the jackpot. I was so exhausted from my trip that I couldn't quite believe it, so I only told one other person in case I'd made a mistake."

Chris went with fellow syndicate member Mark Lorenz to double check the lottery numbers at their local supermarket, and the win was confirmed. But even then the syndicate leader wasn't totally convinced about the reality of the situation. "I only believed this was real when my ticket was validated by Camelot and the cheque was in the bank!" Chris said.

Now that the money really is in the back, and the reality of the situation has been accepted, the syndicate members are planning how to spend their winnings. Chris says that he has ordered a new car already, whilst Mark is looking to do the same, as well as reducing his mortgage by at least fifty per cent. Both winners intend to share some of their Lotto wealth with friends and family members. Other members of the syndicate have requested to remain anonymous, but we think that these spending plans will be fairly common throughout the group.

Earlier in March another syndicate in Hull won £772,906, so if you live in Hull and you happen to belong to a Lottery syndicate, keep your fingers crossed... Next time, it could be you!
