The Georgia Lottery started selling lottery tickets in June 1993, and from the outset the purpose of the Georgia Lottery has been to ‘enhance educational funding’ in the state. Since the start of the Georgia Lottery over $11.5 billion has been raised to help the students of Georgia, and every Georgia Lottery ticket that is sold adds even more money to that already impressive total. The Georgia Lottery Games
Georgia Lottery players have a very good range of games to choose from, including the two American multi-state lotteries Powerball and Mega Millions and dozens of instant win games. There are also four draw-based Georgia Lottery games that are played on a regular basis, as follows:
Win For Life – This Georgia Lottery game is played every Wednesday and Saturday. The Win For Life title refers to the fact that the top prize is $1,000 a week for life, and the second prize is $1,000 a week for a year. Georgia Lottery players have to choose 6 numbers from the range 1 to 42 and the odds of landing the jackpot are 1 in 5,245,786. The odds of winning any prize at all (there are seven prize tiers in all) are 1 in 21.
Fantasy 5 – The Fantasy 5 game is played daily, and Georgia Lottery players have to select 5 numbers from the range 1 to 39 and match all of them to win the jackpot, the size of which is dependent on the number of tickets sol d. Secondary prizes are paid to Georgia Lottery players who successfully match 4, 3, or 2 numbers. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 575,757 and the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 8.77.
Cash 4 – Cash 4 is played twice a day, giving Georgia Lottery fans plenty of opportunities to win a range of cash prizes. Georgia Lottery players have to select a four digit number from 0000 to 9999 and there are 13 ways to play, with prizes varying according to the type of entry selected by the player. For example, if a Georgia Lottery player buys a straight entry and their four digit number matches the winning number exactly (meaning, in the right order) then their prize would be $5,000.
Cash 3 – This is another twice-daily game, and in many respects it is the same as Cash 4. The big difference here is that Georgia Lottery players have to select a three digit number from 000 to 999. There are nine different ways to play, and the prize for a winning straight entry is $500.
Whilst none of the four Georgia Lottery games highlighted here offer the kind of jackpots that can compete with the Mega Millions or Powerball games, all of them do offer plenty of excitement and have helped raise a lot of money for education. It is therefore a very safe bet that they will continue to be enjoyed by Georgia Lottery players for a long time to come.
