Unusual Selection Methods

Lottery jackpot winners have used a wide variety of methods to select the numbers that made them rich. In this article we take a look at some of the most unusual, from those that use random selection to those that aim to cash in on latent psychic potential.

Bingo Toys
There are a number of toy bingo games on the market, and many of these include a bingo tumbler with numbered pieces. The idea is that you rotate the tumbler and it spits out the numbers at random. Basically, this kind of gadget stops kids from cheating by picking their own numbers all the time, but it can be used by lottery players to make selections at random. Simply make sure that you only include the numbers used in the lottery game you play (for example, 1 to 49 for the UK Lotto) and then tumble the device until you have as many numbers as you need.

Pet Picks
Getting your pet to select your lottery numbers may not be something that automatically springs to mind, but several jackpot winners have said that they did exactly this. The way you get your pet to pick your numbers will obviously depend on the kind of pet you have. Numbered ping pong balls could be used to see which ones a cat or dog prefers to play with. At the other extreme, a grid of numbers drawn on a piece of paper could be used to see where a pet budgie decides to... uhm... mark his card. Just remember to treat the pet if you happen to win, otherwise all kinds of legal battles could ensue as they try to secure a portion of your fortune.

Hidden Messages
Lots of jackpot winners have reported using numbers they "stumbled across" during the hours and minutes leading up to the purchase of their tickets. Look out for the numbers in car registration plates, phone numbers you are given, numbers from the balance on your latest statement, and so on. Also, keep your ears open for numbers announced on the radio and television - everything from the FTSE closing level to the latest unemployment figures. Who knows, such "hidden messages" could make you a winner!

Psychic Skills
Finally, if you think you might have some psychic potential, try using your sixth sense to select your numbers. Draw a grid of numbers on a large piece of paper, then use a dowsing pendulum (a ring tied to a shoelace will do) to see where it wants to swing. Or pay more attention to your dreams - many jackpot winners have reported dreaming about their winning numbers before buying their ticket and seeing their dream come true. And whilst you're at it, why not try looking for number-shaped patterns in tea leaves or coffee grouts? If you look hard enough you're bound to find them, so do check before rinsing away that potential fortune!

Unless you really do believe in a sixth sense, the way you choose your numbers has absolutely no influence on your chances of winning, but by varying the method you use you will at least have some fun as you play! Good luck!
